Product description

Basalt is an excellent sustainable alternative for steel. This is because basalt has a CO2 footprint that is 40% lower than steel. This material is made of sustainable fibres, which make for a lightweight, strong construction.

Product data and applications

During the pultrusion process thermosetting polymers and reinforcing fibers areformed into a plastic profile. Reinforcement materials are soaked in liquid resin and then ruffed into the profile form.
Thereafter, the profile is put into a mold that hardens the resin so that it forms a whole with the reinforcement materials. The profile is then cut to the right length in the mold by a cutting unit.
 

Application


Basalt is a material that can be used in all kinds of markets. Examples include: concrete reinforcement in construction, sports equipment, machine construction and in UAVs. These are all applications in which sustainability, lightweight and strength are important themes. The material is also exceedingly chemical resistant and dimensionally stable. 
The product has a density of app. 2.2 gr/cm3.

Fibre density: 65%
Density: 2.2g/cm³
Tensile strength: 1700 MPa
Elasticity modulus: 60 GPa


Surface:  the outside is smoothly chiselled.  Tolerance is +/- 0,05 mm

In comparison with steel (St 37)
Density: 7.8 g/cm³
Tensile strength: 600MPa
Elasticity modulus: 200GPa
